SHILLINGSTONE STATION 2012

For a brief history, please see the Shillingstone 2008 page.

Since my visit in 2010, the volunteers have extended further the track alongside the platform.  The platform retaining wall has been completed and the platform surface restored.  Level crossing gates have been installed south of the platform which enables visitors to move between the two platforms without crossing the line where a locomotive may be operating.  Most important of all is the construction of a new signal box which is being fitted out, but is open to visitors.

These photos were taken on Sunday 25th March 2012.

The main platform has been restored and picnic tables added, giving a very pleasant apperance.

General view of the station building, showing the extended track, the new platform retaining wall,
and in the distance, the new signal box.

The new signal box has been built from scratch.
A frame with levers is in place, but much work has to be done to make the box operational.

The garden areas have been brought up to a high standard.

The end of the line.  This is as far as the tracks go at present.
On the left is the footpath which uses the old track bed for several miles.

View of the station over the new level crossing gates.

A pleasant spring view of the station platform and gardens.
