CHALLENGE RULES
1. This is a computer-based competition which will run during the normal Club year and consist of
THREE Rounds. For each round members will submit 2 images, one on a set subject (SS) and one on a subject of their own choice (OC).
2. The images will be sent to me by e-mail with titles and a coding. So the pictures for the first round will be named “Title.SS1” and “Title.OC1”, and ….SS2, OC2 etc for subsequent rounds.
3. The simplest way to prepare the images for sending may be to create a new folder in "My Pictures" via File -> New -> Folder, and name it "OIC Round 1". Choose your entry for each category (SS and OC) and copy it into the new folder. To e-mail them, highlight the folder (not the individual images) and click on "E-mail this folder's files", then click on "Show more options" and choose "Medium". All images must be in JPEG format.
4. Before sending the pictures it would be preferable that they are resized to comply with the standard rules for PDI images as set out by Mike Smith in his instruction sheet dated 14 January 2010, although this is not a requirement. Copies of the instructions for doing this are available to anyone who has not seen them but, in summary, the maximum dimensions of any image are 1400 pixels wide and 1050 pixels high. This is because all entries will be projected at next year's AGM.
5. All pictures received will be circulated to members as a single e-mail attachment.
6. Members will have 21 days - to cater for holidays etc. - to reply to me by e-mail giving the titles of their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices in each category, together with any comments they may like to make about those choices or any other of the circulated pictures. Constructive comments and suggestions such as the use of cropping or of colour correction may encourage the photographer to re-visit the shot and improve it.
7. Points will be awarded:- 3 for 1st place, 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd. The collated points table, which will include the photographers' names, will be e-mailed to all Members after each round together with aggregated round-by-round points. Any comments made will also be circulated.
8. Trophies will be awarded for the winner of each category - SS and OC - and Certificates given to the top 3 placings in each category.
9. Club Members who are interested please e-mail me and I will attempt to answer any questions!
10. Suggestions for Set Subjects can also be sent to me for circulation to all potential participants so that they can then indicate any preferences. I reserve the right to choose in the event of dispute!
11. The maximum number of participants will be 16.
